Firstly, "Happy Valentine's Day to all who are with girlfriends, better luck next time to fellows like me". The most common way of expressing our love would be flowers, all those poetry, all those cuddlings, all those love letters would have been this beautiful without a flower on top. As we enjoy our Valentine's day, shall we take a look about Varshini? A girl in the flower-shop.
“Hello Varshi, I am Aravind”
“I know that bro”
I have been thinking of writing about you and your shop in
my blog. Can I get an interview?”
“Anytime, tell me what do you wanna know?”
I thought of bringing this interview in a line of Varshitha,
Valentine’s Day, Flower shop experiences”
“Hmmmmmm, sure. But promise me something”
“Don’t put your editing or your romantic touch or some
masala in my interview to make this post spicy. Produce exactly what I tell
you, Deal?”
“Done dana done”.
I was five years old when my mother expired. I came to this
shop at the age of seven. In those days, the set up of this shop was a bit
different. We used lot of country flowers, jasmine, lotus and thulasi for sale.
Roses were not a priority those days. And no Romeo was brave enough to present
his Juliet with rose petals in public. Husbands preferred Jasmine to their
wives and they were a bit shy to buy this in public. Our sale would be on top
during the time of Hindu festivals, on wedding days and when special poojas
were due in big temples.
I was in my sixteen when the bouquet culture came into our
town. That was the time when guys were so eager to woo their girls with
bouquets and thanks to all movie makers. We started buying ooty rose, silk
rose, other leaves for the decoration of bouquets. Roses with long stems were
the priority then. We looked pleased with our sales. There weren’t too much
vehicles and people loved walking. While walking their, wives, daughters and
sisters would demand flowers for them and naturally we got good sale.
I still remember it clearly. It was on my 19th
year, on a valentine’s day, my Adithya proposed me with flowers. Till then I was seeing flowers just as a thing
for sale. I never expected a guy would ever propose me with my own bouquet. He
asked me to design the best bouquet designed so far with my favorite flowers.
While buying it he said it was for her girlfriend who has lost her leg to
polio. I was really happy for that girl coz, I never expected such a nice
fellow to fall in love with a polio attacked girl. I prayed hard while handing
over the bouquet to him saying “All the best”.
He paid for it and rushed in the opposite direction. I
touched my leg which was lost to polio and asked myself “Will you ever get
someone like Adithya?” All of a sudden,
he came in front of me, knelt before my
shop and handed the bouquet to me and said
“Every single day I see your face in-between the flowers. You live life
just as a fairy. Happily, spreading the joy and inspiration to all others. I
want to make you mine; I promise I would never let you go. I love you, happy Valentine’s
Day.
I tried to reach him but fell down due to my legs. He rushed
to carry me. He held me in his arms, close to his chest. I could feel his
raising heart beat. He placed me in the centre spot of my shop, right in
between thousands and thousands of flowers, cleaned the dust from my shoulder
and face. He lifted my chin up and asked “Will you marry me?”
Here we are happily married for the past six years. We are
not the richest, we are not people who go around places and explore love. We
are just happily married loves.
From that day, when a fellow asks for a bouquet on
Valentine’s Day, I pray my best and hand over the bouquet with an “All the
Best”.
“Wow, I believe you would have more love stories than most
of the modern writers” I said.
“I think you are struggling hard for establishing yourself”
She asked.
“Yeah, may be I am an unlucky fellow” I said.
“Oh shut up, come here” she called me.
She gave me a Rose in my hand and said “All the Best, you
will come through all this with flying colors”.
My god, her enthusiasm and positive attitude is really infectious.
I was standing in the market with a smile and my Valentine’s
Day present.
I still could hear those words, “All the best”.
