I had this wonderful opportunity to attend the workshop “Teamwork
– What Makes Our Team Work” conducted by our beloved Distinguished Toast Master
Peri, as a guest in “Arabian Toast Masters”. This is no way an evaluation. I
wanted to share a few ideas and the way DTM Peri’s workshop inspired me and
made me believe in myself. As DTM Peri says himself, the job of a leader is to
inspire and be inspired.
The speech was wonderfully crafted with a very in-depth analysis,
elegant and stunning ideas, enhancing examples and finally a plan that would
help us mold into a better team player. The slides were so well crafted that it
didn’t actually look like a workshop but a professional training you receive from
the people like Robin Sharma and John Maxwell. We do agree that it was an “Arabian
Titan Summit”
What is the important factor of the team? A leader who
inspires and who understands.
So What is Leadership? It is about two always. Always stay
inspired and always go inspire. He explained how good leadership set norms for
the culture of the team that produces the team spirit and great team work.
Then was the Key protocols of Leadership.
1.
Install a mindset to “Lead Without a Title”
2.
Job of a Leader is to grow more Leaders
3.
The three ”I” Practice ( Inspire , Influence,
Impact)
4.
Quality of your craft
5.
Build Relationships
The five wonderful protocols were really an eye opener. The
examples he used were Steve Jobs, John Maxwell and Bill Gates. That question
what was the one thing in common with Mahatma Gandhi, Abraham Lincon and Martin Luther King Jr. They were all
assassinated but their ideas still live. He beautifully made us understand that
they believed that their ideas were bigger than their lives and how they proved
it. DTM Peri showed his Mater craftsmanship in the way he connected these
inspirational tales to the topic.
This was followed by the discussion about the criteria for a
successful team. Can a leader alone make a team successful? He/She need other
factors to form the successful team and those criteria are
1.
Selection
2.
Value every member
3.
Communicate and communicate rightly
4.
It’s performance and not entitlement
5.
Ask for and Accept help
6.
Focus
DTM Peri inspired us with his skills as a champion speaker
that the question answer session was filled with wonderful and practical questions.
As everyone of us felt that the workshop should have been easily a half day and
DTM Peri inspired us within given time of 45 minutes. We thank Arabian Toast Masters for letting be
a part of this wonderful workshop session.
He came, he conquered, he inspired. A true leader DTM Peri.
I could write another twenty pages but I could never put it
as DTM Peri did. If you find anything in this post inspiring all the credit
goes to DTM Peri and if you find something silly or uneventful, I take the entire
responsibility.
With Loads of Love, Respect and Admiration,
Toast Master Aravind
Sethuraman .
