About the story plot:
Maria was a young and adventurous lady who ended up being a prostitute. She was from Geneva and her parents were hard working. She was in love during her school days and the guy went off without even informing his departure. This made her disappointed and she fell in love over and over again during her teenage to which she got disappointments in return. She decided to give up love altogether.
She finished her high school and started working in a TV store. She learned more about physical love and the pleasure it gives. After making a good amount of money, she went on a trip to Rio de Janeiro. There she met a foreign man who offered her a job as a samba dancer which was again a failure to her.
Then she met an Arab man who gave her a huge amount of money in return for the physical pleasure which she gave her. Then she started working as a prostitute in a red area of Geneva. She learned more about physical love and she met guys of different age groups. She started exploring her field.
Then she met a person, who's a famous painter in a cafe who was disappointed with physical and mental love. Maria started explaining him about everything which she had experienced throughout her life. She fell in love with Ralf and the started exploring everything together. After making huge money Maria decided to buy a small farm in Geneva. In the end maria decides to put an end card to her adventures and return home and be with her parents. She boards her plane to Paris without telling her plans to Ralf. Ralf guesses her intentions and started following her once again. The met in airport, kissed and decided to visit Eiffel tower together.
The happy ending:
At last both decides to live their life together. The way that the author ended the story is amazing. Basically we begin a story with 'once upon a time', but Coelho in the contrary ends the story with that phrase which is very impressive.
The diary of Maria:
Coelho is the best expressionist. He had included the Maria's diary in each chapter to explain her emotions and her point of view or feelings.
Love's message conveyed:
Though the story has lots of adult content included in it, it clearly clarifies one's mindset he has on love. Physical love is completely different from the mental love. Mental love has nothing to do with physical love. That's a great message conveyed through this wonderful book.
