Hello ! If you are a writer , you would love this book. Well if you a reader, you will love this equally well. Young adult who is coming off age, heart breaks, divorced parents, inferiority complex, secret life , sneaking out, making out, family bonding , all is well in the end.
Oh wait. We have read this plot a million times and over right? Then why does this book deserve a special place ? The characters, they are raw. Blood and flesh. You must have crossed Cather (the protagonist) or her identical twin, Wren, Reagan (Cather's Room mate), Levi (Cather's boyfriend) and even the small characters, the professor, Cath's library friend, her mom , everyone is so close to reality.
If you want to know how much love, dedication and sacrifice goes into writing, read this book. There is an actual academic course called "Fiction Writing" and Cather is a freshman year student. Her experience in two semesters is the entire book but it's just not some adulthood fiction.
Storyline : Identical sisters go to the same college and one of them don't want to share the room with the other anymore. Wren wants her freedom and independence . So Cath ends up with Reagan. And in due course of time falls for her boyfriend Levi. Here , we have to see a little character sketch about Levi, he goes way away from his line to make others feel special. He is such a down to earth fellow who falls in love with Cather.
There are few cute romantic scenes in the book. It explains about the teen friendships, their relationship with family, their priorities and stuffs.
Draw back : The fanfiction. There is a series called Simon and Snow (Harry Potter ) which has seven books that is made into movies. Yeah Cather is a FANFICTION writer and she is quite successful and famous in the fanfic world. See for those who have not read harry potter this entire fanfiction thing will be a headache, even for few of us who read harry potter this fan fiction part is little annoying, This is about the gay relationship between Harry and Draco (in this book, they have been named Simon and Buzz, respectively ). I don't even know why this fanfiction thing has to be this large part of this wonderful book ! Many of others who read this book said that they can relate to Harry and Draco so well but I just couldn't.
Quotes I loved :
1. “I don’t trust anybody. Not anybody. And the more that I care about someone, the more sure I am they’re going to get tired of me and take off.”
2. “Just... isn't giving up allowed sometimes? Isn't it okay to say, ‘This really hurts, so I’m going to stop trying’?”
“It sets a dangerous precedent.”
“For avoiding pain?”
“For avoiding life.”

4. “Sometimes writing is running downhill, your fingers jerking behind you on the keyboard the way your legs do when they can’t quite keep up with gravity.”
I loved everything about this book, except for that Fanfiction thing which I think Rowell has taken her readers for granted. Other than that, "Fangirl" is a rock star !
4/5.
With Love,
Arvi
