Book Review - The Sun is also a Star by Nicola Yoon

Onsra  : Definition : To love for the last time , the bitter sweet feelings that occours when they know that their love won't last  (Origin :Boro Language, spoken in Assam, India)

You believe in love at first sight ? Or second sight ?
Have you ever been so madly in love with someone that you acted joker just to make them laugh?
Have you looked at your loved one and played your entire future inside your head ?
Have you tried to look calm and act cool when your heart is being ripped apart ?
Have you ever hid your pain, tears , agony and put on a smile on your face and make your lover laugh as this might be the last time you meet her ?
If your answer is "Yes" to anyone of the question , Bingo ! It's your story. It's your book !

The story revolves around tow main characters named Daniel(Korean- American) and Natasha (Jamaican- American). This whole book is just a single day from their life. On the given day, Daniel is supposed to have his life's most important interview and Natasha has one last chance to try to stop herself and her family from being deported from the country as they are undocumented immigrants.

Lets see the style of the book. First person point of view. But what else can be asked to fill the pages? magic , Love , Heart- breaks, Racism, giving up on life, suicide notes, humanity, adultery, comforting others when you are bleeding. See if you are passionate about life, about the small little things, when you look forward for a "quality time" like sitting on a terrace with your loved one and having a conversation about life would attract you more than money, rekindling a passion turns you on, when you look life through the eyes of kindness, faith and love, a lot of cliche moments but they make it all bitter sweet experience.

Favorite quote :
“Red Tie,” I say.
“Daniel,” he insists.
“Don’t fall in love with me, Daniel.”

Just a love story right ? Noooo! They are cute, they have pasts, they are in the verge of something that would change their life forever , still they are brave enough to fall in love and express it, fight for it and try till the end.

Favorite quote :
"And what about the lovers who spend staring into each other's eyes? Is it a display of trust ? 'I will let you in close and  trust you not to hurt me while I am at this vulnerable position'. And if trust is one of the foundations of love, perhaps the staring is a way to reinforce it. Or may be it's simpler than that.
A simple search for connection
To see
To be seen"

When you read the first 20 pages you will feel that you are reading something special and once you fall in love with this book, its chaos. In between  when they are sitting on a terrace you will mentally threaten the author don't you dare make it a tragic end, please don't kill anyone or make them fall out of love.

I fell in love with this book . It will be so close to my heart so I can't rate this book.

Quotes I loved. Not exactly quotes ,

1. “There’s a Japanese phrase that I like: koi no yokan. It doesn’t mean love at first sight. It’s closer to love at second sight. It’s the feeling when you meet someone that you’re going to fall in love with them. Maybe you don’t love them right away, but it’s inevitable that you will.”
2. “I didn't know you this morning, and now I don't remember not knowing you.”
3. “Stars are important," I say, laughing.
"Sure, but why not more poems about the sun? The sun is also a star, and it's our most important one. That alone should be worth a poem or two.”
4. “How can you trust something that can end as suddenly as it begins?”
5. “The trouble with getting your hopes too far up is: it's a long way down.”

No matter what your age is, read this book. It explains the simple terms like gratitude, thank you, love, family life, chasing dreams, opening your heart , living life at this moment and  love.

It is a book about a guy, a girl and the universe !
I love this .
with love,
Arvi
